John R. Landon is president and owner of Landon
Development Company, which he established in
2006. Landon served as co-chairman and CEO of
Meritage Homes Corporation from 1997 to 2006.
Landon served as CEO of Legacy Homes, a Texas-based
firm which he founded in 1987.
A 1997 merger between Legacy Homes and Monterey
Homes created the company Meritage Homes, the
13th largest homebuilder in the United States
according to Builder magazine. Landon co-founded
Meritage Homes in 1997 and, under his leadership,
the company became one of the premier residential
home builders in the United States, with closing
revenue rising of $3 billion in 2005. During Landon's
tenure, Meritage Homes built more than 40,000 homes,
ranging from entry level to luxury single family
detached, condos, town homes, active adult homes, and
two golf courses. The company was named to the
Fortune 1000 in 2005, and ranked one of Fortune's fastest
growing companies in America. In addition, Meritage
Homes was named to the Forbes Platinum 400 list of
America's best big companies for the third consecutive
year in 2005, and ranked the number one performing
stock in America for five-year total return in 2004.
Landon's previous experience includes land acquisition
and development operations for a large homebuilder,
sales and land development for the Trammel Crow
Residential Group, and public accounting with Ernst &
Whinney.
Landon is part of the ownership group which purchased
the NBA basketball team the Phoenix Suns in 2004.
Landon received his undergraduate degree in accounting
from Louisiana State University in 1980.
