Eduardo Aguirre Jr., Director of the Bureau
of Citizenship and Immigration Services Department
of Homeland Security in Baton Rouge, will be the
second speaker of the fall semester in LSU's Flores
Master of Business Administration Distinguished
Speaker Series. Aguirre will speak on Oct. 24,
at 10 a.m., in the Lod Cook Alumni Center on LSU's
campus.
Eduardo Aguirre, Jr. was sworn in as the first
director of Citizenship and Immigration Services,
a key leadership position in the Department of
Homeland Security, on August 15, 2003. It is his
second presidential appointment to a full-time
position in the Federal government. Named “one
of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the nation”
by Hispanic Business Magazine, Mr. Aguirre has
traveled extensively in Latin America, Europe
and Asia, promoting economic growth and international
trade as a banker and representative of the U.S.
government.
Aguirre joined the Department of Homeland Security
from the Export-Import Bank, where he was vice
chairman and chief operating officer. He served
as acting chairman from December 2001 to December
2002. Prior to joining the Export-Import Bank,
he was President of International Private Banking
for Bank of America, where he had worked for 24
years. Aguirre was appointed by then-Governor Bush to
the Board of Regents of the University of Houston
System for a six-year term, serving from 1996-1998
as chairman. President George H. W. Bush appointed
him to the National Commission for Employment
Policy, and the Supreme Court of Texas appointed
him to the State Bar as a non-attorney director.
Mr. Aguirre holds a bachelor of science degree
from the College of Business Administration at
Louisiana State University. He is a graduate of
the American Bankers Association’s National
Commercial Lending Graduate School, and has been
awarded honorary doctorates from the University
of Houston and the Universidad Tecnológica
de Santiago in the Dominican Republic. His deep
commitment to community service is reflected by
his involvement in numerous boards and associations,
including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,
Texas Children’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s
Hospital, Bankers Association for Finance and
Trade, and the Houston chapters of the American
Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
The Flores MBA Distinguished Speaker Series is
free and open to the public. Dress is professional.
